Ways to get connected
Free Community Yoga Flow & Round Two Coffee Open House
If you’re ready to start your new year with connection, movement, and caffeine(!), want to try more fun and free activities and/or explore new spaces, come to our community open house on Saturday January 10th. We’ll be kicking off the morning with a gentle stretch class at 9:30am taught by Yoga6 in an accessible, non-denominational way—whatever your background, whatever you believe, you’ll be welcome! We’ll be focusing on getting our bodies moving after the holiday season and in the depth of winter. Feel free to come as early as 9:15am to find McHattie Hall (it’s the building with the second tallest roof on campus, and has a gym in the middle, so you can’t miss us) and get your mat set up.
After class gets out at 10:30am, we’re super excited to also get to host Round Two Coffee; their amazing specialty drinks will be on us. We’ll open up the doors to three of our gathering spaces on campus: our free coworking space (open most Monday & Friday afternoons from 1-5pm); a living room-esque lounge space with cozy coffee shop vibes (where we host our Open Air Open Mics during the indoor season); and for those who are interested in architecture and/or sacred spaces, our mid-century sanctuary with vaulted redwood ceilings and stained glass). Think of this time as a community mixer, where everyone is invited to stay, hang out, connect with someone new, work on a puzzle, read a book, or whatever floats your morning boat!
We know that it’s hard to find places to gather and meet new people in the South Bay, and especially in Cupertino, so we like to use our space to serve community in this way. We’d love to get to meet you!
Feel free to come for one or both (just yoga; just coffee & the open house)—or all of the above. We’re excited to get to collaborate with two local businesses, Yoga6 and Round Two Coffee. If it turns out there is enough community interest, we’ll be able to bring this back!
Worship Service - JESUS IN HIS OWN WORDS Sermon & Discussion Series
We are launching an eight-week series that will look at key identity statements Jesus made about himself, and what that means for us. Whether you are simply curious about Jesus or you long to know him more deeply, investigating and reflecting upon what Jesus told his listeners about who he is becomes a great starting point for us. These statements are recorded by the disciple, John, and are known as the I AM statements of Jesus.
TWO FORMATS, ONE THEME
WORSHIP SERVICE & COMMUNITY MEAL
On Sunday January 11, Sunday February 1, and Sunday March 1, we will meet at 4:15pm in the sanctuary for gathered worship; these worship services will incorporate liturgical elements like prayers, creeds, a sermon, and communion. And since we love to spend time together, like our usual monthly services, we’ll still come together afterward for a community meal.
DISCUSSION GROUP & COMMUNITY MEAL
On the other Sundays* (January 18, 25; February 15, 22, 29), we will be meeting at 4:15pm across the courtyard in McHattie Hall for a more casual, interactive discussion. We’ll still sing worship songs to God to open our time, and then we’ll dig into the Bible passage for the day. No prior background knowledge is needed, and if you need a Bible, let us know—we’d love to give you one! And if you prefer to listen rather than talk, don’t worry—you won’t have to share anything unless you want to.
Since this space we’re meeting in is smaller, and we’ll be ordering dinner based on the number of people who are coming, we appreciate your RSVP to hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org. Let us know if you have any food restrictions or allergies that we can accommodate!
(On February 8th, we’ll move our group to 10:30am, since Levi Stadium is hosting the Super Bowl!)
WHICH FORMAT IS FOR ME?
Our hope is that people can follow along on the whole eight-week journey, joining both formats for a more well-rounded and holistic learning experience, as well as cultivate deeper community and connections through more consistent presence. We aim to make both the worship service and the discussion group format accessible to people from any background.
But the best way to know for sure is to come to the first one of each format, on January 11 and January 18.
And as always, you can drop us a line at hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org with any specific questions you have about what to expect—we’d love to fill in any details.
Kickoff for Weekly Dinner Discussion Group on Life & Faith (Alpha)
Alpha is designed for anyone who is looking to make friends over a meal with meaningful conversation, and is open to and interested in hearing a variety of perspectives on life and faith.
On Thursday January 15th from 6:15-8:15pm we’re hosting a “come and see” night for you to both literally and figuratively get a taste of what this experience will be like.
Drop us a line at hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org to RSVP, so we know how many to cook for. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or restrictions and we can make sure you’re covered!
This is the first week of an eleven-week group. We’ll eat dinner together first, watch a short film produced by the Alpha Course, and we’ll probably tell a joke or do an ice breaker before getting into the conversation! Since the video each week looks at different elements of the Christian faith, and includes street interviews with people from diverse backgrounds on their perspectives on that week’s theme, participants will have the chance to share our own reactions, perceptions, perspectives, faith/non-faith backgrounds and stories. The more diverse our perspectives, the more interesting the discussion, and the more we can learn from one another.
Please note that while the course is structured to dialogue with major tenets of the Christian faith, this is a beautifully pressure-free safe space for people of all backgrounds and beliefs. While some people who identify as Christian might participate, this is definitely not a "Christian group"—it's meant for people of any background who have questions or are curious.
Expect to bond over the course of the winter as we share stories and experiences. There will also be an optional retreat the weekend of February if you’re looking for a change of pace and a chance to deepen friendships.
Alpha is run all around the world, and we love the way it brings people together and creates community!
What can you expect on a typical Alpha night?
Starting with delicious food (Joel’s a PHENOMENAL cook and adept with handling food allergies, so don’t let that hold you back)
A joke and/or an icebreaker
Watching a short film that raises a different question each week. This week’s question is “Is there more to life than this?”. On the weeks that follow, since each night's video (produced by the Alpha Course) will look at different elements of the Christian faith, participants will have the chance to share our own reactions, perceptions, perspectives, faith/non-faith backgrounds and stories.
Good, honest conversation, responding to the video with our perspectives, feeling free to share our questions, objections, and diverse experiences, in a safe listening community where we value each other's differences and are open to connecting with others
Bonding with other participants from different backgrounds, especially if you decide to join the full summer series. (There's something about coming together over a meal every week and having meaningful conversations that creates friendships faster than we normally do in our adult lives, and more like we might have experienced in college.)
Ending on time. Though you're welcome to linger and chat, we'll have a clear finish by 8:15pm so that you can also head home and get some rest and don't have to feel awkward trying to slip out
Ready to RSVP or have questions?
TO BE RESCHEDULED - New date TBD - Yes, We Can! Food Pantry Service Project
NEW DATE TO BE DECIDED — Since Caitlin & Joel will need to help a family member out of state navigate some medical issues, we have to postpone this service project. We aim to do it later this month, before Christmas. Stay tuned for more details.
We always love getting to serve West Valley Community Services, but in a year when so many of our neighbors are experiencing food insecurity, it’s more important than ever to come alongside non-profits like WVCS that envision a roof over every head and food on every table.
WVCS has a lot of donations coming into their food pantry thanks to holiday canned food drives, and they need help sorting the donations. In particular, we'll be making sure that goods that are WAY past the expiration date do not pass go, and we'll also help them categorize by type to make it easier to stock their shelves.
This is a great opportunity for us to get to roll up our sleeves and serve our community, while we also get to know our neighbors. Dress warmly since we might be meeting outdoors—note that we’re meeting at West Valley Community Services, not at the church!
Drop us a line if you’re planning on coming so this local community org can right-size the project for our group size: hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org. We’d love to serve with you!
CANCELED: Coworking at The Neighborhood & Soup Dinner!
CANCELED!
We need to cancel this coworking & soup dinner session because Caitlin & Joel will need to travel out of state to help a family member with some medical issues. Thank you for understanding, and we’ll see you in January!
We are mostly closed for the month of December, so to make up for that—and because we’ll take any excuse to gather and eat together—we’ll be making a big pot of soup (with a vegetarian option) for anyone who wants to stay after coworking and hang out over a cozy bowl of soup!
Drop us a line at hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org if you’re planning on coming, and if you have any food allergies/restrictions. The soup will be dairy-free, gluten-free, and soy-free already, in case that covers any of your food needs too!
More about The Neighborhood: Cupertino’s Coworking Collective
More than just being a place to get work done, the Neighborhood is about the people you can meet and the friends you can make when you show up to the same place together week after week, with the intention of getting to know others.
We love the flexibility of working from home, but we know how isolating and lonely that can be.
Come join a welcoming indoor/outdoor co-working space that has a relaxed coffee shop vibe but with more of a community feel, a place where you’re known and can greet each other by name. Think of this as a space where you can come and focus on work, but also have as a launch pad to make new friends that you can get to know after work too.
And by the way, the Neighborhood is one of the ways we serve, love, and get to know our neighbors, so it’s free. Free is pretty rare around these parts, so we thought you might want to know!
We have WiFi, snacks, seltzers, and charging ports a plenty, and will brew you a fresh pot of coffee if you feel like getting caffeinated. So why work from home when you can work from here?
Community-wide Candlelight Christmas Service
You're invited to our community-wide candlelight Christmas service on Sunday December 7th at 7pm. Whatever your background, whatever you believe, we would love to kick off the Christmas season with you.
Since we love getting to know people who have never been (or who are not currently) connected to a church, we're focused on featuring the traditional hallmarks of the holiday season while also making the service very relatable. Kids are welcome and we'll have special activity pages for them as they join adults in the service.
During the service, we'll sing classic carols together, and you'll hear a passage read from the Bible about how the birth of Jesus helps us to live with more freedom and joy. We'll think about what this looks like in Silicon Valley today, and offer a few moments for quiet reflection before concluding with our favorite tradition: passing candlelight from person to person as we sing "Silent Night" together. Each person will see how their light contributes to overcome the darkness, and to bringing joy and hope to a weary world.
Then we'll cross our courtyard from the sanctuary into our festively-decorated hall, where everyone can make their own cups of hot cocoa and decorate cookies with their neighbors. If you want to check out our free coworking space while you’re here, open most Mondays and Fridays, do that! Stay and hang. The service will end by 8pm but the cookie-decorating and cocoa-drinking is open-ended. Let the good times roll…and be dusted in sugar!
If you're new to church, or have been away from church for a long time, you are ESPECIALLY welcome here. We’re a church startup, so you'll fit right in—everyone is new!
WHERE TO PARK
We’re on the corner of Bollinger & Miller, and have parking lots on both wings, one off each street. The Bollinger parking lot connects to the Miller lot with a one-way driveway as well. We’ll have friendly folks in the parking lot ready to point the way. In the unlikely event that both parking lots fill up, there’s also free street parking on Miller. And you can also park at Hyde Middle School, which is just next door. So many options, all of them free!
WHAT TO WEAR
Anything goes. We want you to feel comfortable, so whatever you personally would wear to a simple holiday gathering or to meet up with some friends is perfect! Most importantly, we want you to come as you are. You’ll probably see a lot of people wearing Christmas colors, so that’s fun if you want to join in, but no pressure. It’s more important to us that you join us than what you’re wearing when you’re here!
Coworking at The Neighborhood & Soup Dinner!
More than just being a place to get work done, the Neighborhood is about the people you can meet and the friends you can make when you show up to the same place together week after week, with the intention of getting to know others.
We are mostly closed for the month of December, so to make up for that—and because we’ll take any excuse to gather and eat together—we’ll be making a big pot of white chicken chili (and we’ll have a mushroom & root vegetable vegetarian main too) for anyone who wants to stay after coworking and hang out over a cozy bowl of soup!
Drop us a line at hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org if you’re planning on coming, and if you have any food allergies/restrictions. The white chicken chili will be dairy-free, gluten-free, and soy-free already, in case that covers any of your food needs too!

Friendsgiving
Whether you’ve been celebrating Thanksgiving your whole life, or you’ve never celebrated Thanksgiving before, we’d love to celebrate with you this year!
We’re hosting a potluck where we provide the proteins (turkey, of course, and a vegetarian option as well), and then everyone will join culinary forces to bring the sides, desserts, and NA drinks. Come at 2:30pm to get your food set up, and we’ll aim to be eating by 3pm. We’ll take a break before dessert, and we’ll have the option to linger and play games, for that leisurely holiday feeling!
RSVP here! (Please RSVP as soon as you know you’re coming so that the other potluckers know how many they are cooking for. Feel free to put a TBD as your dish name until you decide that.)
Pro-tip: elastic waistbands are encouraged but not required. Same goes for Tupperware so you can take home leftovers! Prepare to feast!

Saturday Serve - Food Pantry Glow Up for West Valley Community Services
We have an awesome weekend opportunity to serve one of our favorite local non-profit community partners from 10am-12noon. So come one and come all for a quick but helpful service project!
Details
West Valley Community Services wants to unite the community to fight hunger and homelessness, and they envision a community where every person has food on the table and a roof over their head. Clients shop the food pantry during the week, so the weekend is the best time to give it a deep clean!
We will be sweeping, wiping, scrubbing, vacuuming, and mopping: floors, shelves, fridges, freezers, carts, milk crates, and more. If we can clean it and make it shine, we will!
What to expect:
Meeting new people and/or getting to know them better while you serve alongside each other
How to prepare:
Wear clothes you don't mind possibly getting grubby
Bring layers in case you get cold easily and/or volunteer to clean out any of the freezers/refrigerator sections
Latex gloves are provided, but if you have your own favorite pair of work gloves, bring those. Sometimes people like to wear a mask too—we use food-safe disinfectant spray, but it can be nice to not stick your face in what you just spritzed! Mask and gloves are both optional though.
Bring a water bottle
We will meet at WVCS, located at 10104 Vista Dr, Cupertino, CA 95014
Park on the street—parking is free, but you might want to give yourself a couple extra minutes to walk from the car
More about WVCS:
West Valley Community Services, Inc. is a community-based non-profit agency, founded in 1973. West Valley Community Services serves low-income and unhoused individuals and families in the West Valley communities of Cupertino, Saratoga, West San Jose, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and the surrounding mountain regions. WVCS provides a continuum of basic needs for the population it serves, which includes an in-house WVCS Market, mobile Park-It Market, supportive services for the unhoused, emergency financial assistance, case management, community access to resources and education, special programs like the Back-to-School supplies and holiday program to support families.

Fall Neighborhood Worship Gathering & Community Meal
This month’s neighborhood worship service will be followed by our usual community meal, and we’re bringing back a food truck from Zaida’s Kitchen! Coming to the service and staying for the meal is a great way to meet new people, connect with God, and either deepen or explore faith.
Who are these Neighborhood Worship Services & Community Meals for anyway?
Everyone! As a new church, we have focused on building community and relationships, so that when we start a weekly worship service later this fall, everyone will know that they are welcome and wanted.
If you’re curious about Jesus, new to church, or have been disconnected from the church for a long time, you will find a place to plug in, with a style of service that is accessible, thought-provoking, and honoring.
If you’re searching for a church family where you can use your God-given gifts to become more like Jesus, you’ll also find a home here, to grow, be transformed, and to serve. You’ll also get to experience the joy of seeing others respond to God—perhaps for the very first time!
What will the worship service look like?
We orient our Spirit-led service around the Christian Scriptures, with a spaciousness that allows us to respond to God as he speaks with us. Together we engage ancient and modern practices, which will include the option to participate in communion every service. We also share original music and liturgy that we write for our neighborhood, as well as classic hymns and historic prayers that have been giving people around the world hope and meaning for centuries.
Community meal
We plan to follow every monthly service with community meal, where people can continue to connect around the table. Even though we’re grateful for the way tech improves our lives, we also know it can’t replace in-person interactions. There’s nothing like being with friends in real life. So after each service, we’ll have questions that we can discuss together over a meal, questions about what stood out to us in the service, and what’s going on in our lives. We’ll have the opportunity to get to know new people, and also get to experience being known. Together, we’ll create a safe space—whether you’re an extrovert or introvert, whether you want to go deep or are more comfortable listening than speaking, you are welcome here!
Of course, behind the scenes and beforehand, there will be people serving the community who want to help prepare and set up meals, greet people as they come in, run slides and sound, sing and play instruments, and more. If that’s you, let us know—a church service is a reflection of a church body, and takes many committed folks to make it possible!

Community-wide Pumpkin-Decorating Party
Celebrate the fall season with your neighborhood and come decorate pumpkins with us! We’ll provide the pumpkins, stickers, paint pens, cider, donuts, and other fall flavors—all we need is you!
Dress for the outdoors, as we’ll be decorating pumpkins in the central courtyard. Friends new and old and of all ages are welcome! We’ll also have cornhole and a jumbo-sized Jenga if you want to mix it up. And a photographer to capture all the pumpkin-decorating action to boot.
If you are bringing kids, please plan to accompany them, as this is an independently-guided activity.
Registration is requested so that we can prepare the right quantity of materials. Register here and let us know how many decorators you are bringing!
Open Air Open Mic
(INDOOR EDITION): Now on the fourth Friday night of every month we bring together a supportive community of those who love music, the spoken word, clean(!) comedy, and creative arts.
This is a time when imperfect people can come together and encourage one another to step out and share something new, to be vulnerable enough to be ourselves, to take a risk, and discover we are appreciated just as we are. Whether you have something you want to share or if you want to cheer on others who do, we want you here!
Read on for what to expect if you’re coming to support a performer, and below that, what to expect if you’re performing.
The headline is: let's have fun meeting new people and supporting the local creative arts scene. Please keep in mind that this is designed to be a safe space for people, whatever background we are from or whatever beliefs we have. If you have questions about content, let us know. We're happy to help.
I'm coming to cheer on the performers! What do I need to know?
The "coverage charge" is to bring some canned goods for West Valley Community Services. Check out what they need the most
Feel free to bring your own snacks or NA beverages, but we’ll have seltzers and ice cream to share too!
I'm coming to perform! What do I need to know?
Slots are 5-10 minutes, depending on how many performers we have. Time slot includes your set-up time
Sign up with this form ahead of time to get a slot, or come at 6:45pm the night-of! (Sorry! We can’t guarantee people who come later will get a slot)
Bring your instrument (unless you’re playing keys—we’ll provide a house keyboard: a Roland Juno-DS 88)
If you're a vocalist that wants live accompaniment, head over here and let us know what song you want to do. The more notice you give us, the better chances are we can accompany you live. Tracks are okay too, but live is fun, right?
We’ll have two mics, a 1/4 inch connection for your instrument, and two music stands
Keep it family-friendly! If PG-10 were a rating, that’s what we’d be going for

Bring a lawn chair, a jacket or a blanket—whatever you need to stay comfy or warm as the sun goes down. There are a few picnic tables where you can sit if you don’t have a lawn chair, but a lawn chair is always more comfortable!
You might also want to bring sunglasses or a hat for when the sun starts to set behind the trees.

Can't wait to see (and hear!) you there!

Yes, We Can! Food Pantry Service Project
Looking for a way to connect with others and give back to start your weekend off right? Let's serve West Valley Community Services together for a quick but high impact service project.
Because of an incoming food drive, WVCS will receive such a high volume of food pantry donations that they have to rent storage pods to contain them all before they are sorted. What we do is make sure that goods that are WAY past the expiration date do not pass go, and we also help them categorize by type to make it easier to stock their shelves. It's amazing how many cans we can process together as a group!
This is a great opportunity for us to get to roll up our sleeves and serve our community, while we also get to know our neighbors. Note that we’re meeting at West Valley Community Services, not on the church campus!
Drop us a line if you’re planning on coming so this local community org can right-size the project for our group size: hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org

Summer Worship Service & Community Cookout (Second Sundays)
Sometimes summer can feel a bit stale or even lonely—it can seem like everyone else has travel plans! But you can mix it up this summer right from home, as we'll be hosting monthly worship services this summer on Second Sundays, followed by a cookout in our courtyard. This is a great way to meet new people, connect with God, and either deepen or explore faith.
Who are these Second Sunday Summer Worship Services & the Community Cookouts for anyway?
What will these Second Sunday Summer Worship Services look like?
We will orient our Spirit-led service around the Christian Scriptures, with a spaciousness that allows us to respond to God as he speaks with us. Together we will engage ancient and modern practices, which will include participating in communion every service. We will also share original music and liturgy that we write for our neighborhood, as well as classic hymns and historic prayers that have been giving people around the world hope and meaning for centuries.
Community cookout
We plan to follow every summer service with a community meal, where people can continue to connect around the table.
