Most of us spend much of our lives working—yet we often wonder if it truly matters. Why Work? is a four-week, podcast-based small group experience created by the Bay Area Center for Faith, Work & Tech to help us explore how our work fits into God’s design and purpose. Through short episodes and in-person guided discussions, together we’ll discover how to find meaning, motivation, and joy in the work we do every day.

This Thursday night in-person small group experience includes:

  • A 15-minute podcast episode we’ll watch together

  • Personal reflection questions

  • Dinner and group discussion

We’re launching the series on Thursday April 30th and it will conclude on Thursday May 21, meeting each Thursday night from 6:15-7:45pm.

Why Work?

What You'll Explore

Over four weeks, your group will unpack big questions about work, calling, and purpose:

Week 1: Two Lies and a Truth About Work

Week 2: Our Work and God's Big Story

Week 3: Work as Mission

Week 4: The Instrumental and Inherent Value of Work

This journey invites you to wrestle with deep questions through thought-provoking podcasts and guided discussions. Together, you'll discover how work was part of God's design from the beginning, how to stay motivated when it feels fruitless or frustrating, and how your vocation carries eternal value.

Designed for groups of Christ-followers, Why Work? is both accessible and potentially life-changing—helping you and your group see work with renewed purpose, clarity, and joy.

Make sure to RSVP if you’re interested—we will be setting the specific meeting location on our campus based on the number of people who sign up. And we’ll also text you a link to add your food order to our group order for dinner.

Typical Flow

  • Dinner’s on us! We’ll be putting in a group food order so that you can choose your own dinner. Each night, we’ll start by getting settled in with our food, check in on how the week’s been going before starting the podcast episode.

  • People can continue to eat dinner as we watch the 15-minute podcast episode setting the theme and tone for the evening’s discussion.

  • Through thoughtful discussion prompts, we’ll have the opportunity to delve deeper and learn from each other. We’ll make time to pray together before we close for the evening, based on what has come up for us through discussion and reflection, and what we have going on at work.

  • It’s a work night, so we’ll make sure we’re finished by 7:45pm each session so that you can reliably plan your evening and have time to rest and unwind.
