Resurrecting Hope
Worship Service & Outdoor Community Meal
How do we hold onto hope in the midst of hard times, pain, brokenness, and injustice—both in our own lives, and in the world around us?
What would it mean to you to know that hope is also holding onto us?
This Easter Sunday, come hear about the hope that is found in Jesus being raised to life, how this empowers us to live lives of authentic hope, and how this hope enables us to enter into dark places and the broken spaces in our own lives and the lives of others. This hope cannot be extinguished by cruelty or injustice, but rather is a hope that creates kindness and pursues justice.
This isn’t toxic positivity. This is a kind of hope that allows us to fully feel the turmoil within us and around us, and yet also say that brokenness doesn’t get to have the last word, because Jesus will make all things new.
If any of this resonates, we’d love for you to be here with us as this hope awakens us to new possibilities.
What to expect
This warm and inviting worship service will include liturgical elements like prayers, creeds, a sermon, and communion. Don’t know what any of that means? Not to worry—we like to explain the historic elements in our service as we go, because in times when so much is changing, these ancient practices can help root and ground us, and connect us to others across time and space.
Our worship service will be followed by a community meal outdoors in the courtyard, and we’ll be bringing back our favorite local food truck from Zaida’s Kitchen. Zaida’s Kitchen serves authentic Mexican Oaxacan cuisine, is 100% gluten-free, and makes from-scratch non-GMO corn tortillas. Yum!
Reach out to us with any questions you have at hello@wvneighborhoodchurch.org. Going anywhere for the first time can be really challenging. Going to a church for the first time can be especially intimidating. We’d love to help make it easier.
Bringing kids?
We love to have kids in the service with us. They are part of the family of God, and we can all learn from each other, whether young-at-heart or young in age.
If adults prefer to bring kids 4-and-under to join our WVNC Littles, drop off starts at 4pm before the 4:15pm service. The kids will be with two background-checked adults at all times, who love to share the love of Jesus in safe, kid-friendly ways. One of our Easter kids’ leaders teaches art at Mandarin Immersion Academy, and the other is a professional teacher’s aide. Pickup will be right after the service concludes (usually between 5:40-5:45pm) so that families will be reunited for the community meal.
Feel to bring a water bottle and snacks for your littles if you know they get hungry during that time of day, but please nothing with peanuts, sesame, and/or egg as one of our WVNC Littles has a contact allergy to these three. If you’re bringing a Little with another allergy, let us know. Together, we can keep everyone’s kids safe!
